ABOUT US
“Toronto Maironio Mokykla” took its first steps in 1948, when teacher Vitalius Matulaitis, with several other teachers, started Lithuanian lessons with twenty students in the basement of the “Šv. Jono Krikštytojo” parish. In the first year, the school was patronized by Fr. Petras Ažubalis.
The school took its first steps, they were modest, but they continued to strengthen, bringing benefits and contributions to the Lithuanian community in Toronto. In 1951-1952, the school was named after Maironis. Over the years, the number of students increased, teachers changed, premises changed. In 1966, the number of students reached 620, which is the largest number of students in the entire history of the school.
In recent years, the number of students has been changing, some years we have more or less students. We are working to keep the Lithuanian spirit in our hearts, our children’s and grandchildren’s as firmly and as long as possible, and we will be able to realize this only with joint efforts and joint aspirations. This is what our school motto says, "At Maironis school we speak Lithuanian", which we remember every Saturday in our school and every day in our hearts.
